Lasik Eye Surgery
Everybody wants to have the trouble free vision that they had when they were children. Lasik eye surgery promises to make that a reality for a growing number of people. Many wear glasses and contacts, but the number of those unfortunates is diminishing rapidly because of the perfections of the surgery. Using concentrated beams of photons, doctors are able to reshape the eye so that it has the acuity that it once did.
Lasers may be used for the procedure, but that has not deterred people from having the surgery.
A day is set for the procedure and the person who is to have the surgery is taken into a regular doctor’s office and stretched out in a dentist’s type chair. They are made comfortable, the area is neutralized with a small amount of anesthetic and then they have the out patient operation right there.
The visit is just that quick. There is nothing more for the doctor’s office to do but schedule a follow up visit about a week away.
When you go to the office the second time, the doctor is just going to make sure that you are still seeing as well as you are supposed to. Again, it is a fast trip to the doctor’s rooms to check out how the lasik eye surgery took, and then back home or to the office.
People may not want to have the procedure done because they think that with lasers involved there will be a lot of pain. The truth is that there is basically none.
Most offices will supply their patients with pictures from the operation on their eyes. The picture depicts what it looks like to have your eye spread open and gone over with a laser. Even with the pictures though it is difficult to see what the doctor actually did. They are great conversation pieces though.
With every new operation or any type of medical procedure is that there have not been any studies conducted as to the long term effectiveness of the lasik eye surgery. Unfortunately, those studies have not yet been any studies done because the operation is very new in terms of procedures. People want their doctors to tell them that they will be able to keep the twenty-twenty vision their entire lives. Unfortunately, doctors cannot be entirely sure that it will last because there are not yet enough cases that that were performed a long time ago.
There are many reasons why someone would not wish to have the surgery done, but one of the biggest is the cost associated with it. Insurance companies have deemed, for the most part that this is a surgery that does not need to be done for the person to have a good life and so they do not pay for it. With a price tag upwards of a thousand dollars per eye, it can be a problem for some people.
Cost could be a prohibitive factor, but not that much usually. The fact that a person cannot see without aids is a lot worse.
So, whether you just want to correct the vision you have for looks purposes or you want to rid yourself of the glasses and contacts, lasik eye surgery is a great way to go. Clinical studies show that the problems are minor and the reward can be great.
