Effects of Smoking : How Does Smoking Affect the Muscular System?

Cigarette smoke affects the muscular system by decreasing the ability for muscles to exercise at maximum capacity. Discover how a lack of oxygen prohibits muscles from fully functioning with help from a pulmonary disease research expert in this free video on the effects of smoking. [...]

Vaccine Safety Conference Session 18: Dr. Romain Gherardi

Nanosized particles injected into muscle slowly disseminate within phagocytes Dr. Romain K. Gherardi is a French specialist of neuromuscular diseases. He graduated in clinical Neurology and Pathology, and has been a Professor since 1990. He is working at the Henri Mondor hospital, the second largest hospital of Assistance Publique- Hôpitaux de Paris, located in Créteil and depending of Paris-Est University. He heads the department of Histology that includes both Neuropathologic and Clinical activities in the setting of a Neuromuscular disease reference center. He also heads an experimental research team entitled ‘Cellular interactions in the Neuromuscular system” (INSERM U955-E10) at the Institut Mondor de Recherche Biomédicale (IMRB). From 1983 to 2010, Gherardi has published 290 articles indexed in PubMed, and monitored 14 PhD and 10 MSc students on the topic of biology, pathology and clinics of the nervous and muscular system. He previously studied several immuno-inflammatory and toxic neuromuscular disorders (almitrine neuropathy, zidovudine myopathy, statin myopathy, etc). He is currently working on innate immune reactions to myoinjury, biodistribution of nanoparticles, and pathophysiology of ‘macrophagic myofasciitis” a neurologic disease linked to the long term persistence of Alum adjuvant in monocyte/macrophage lineage cells. Talk on human body as an electrical system part 1

All action of human body requires ATP energy. The metabolism to produce such energy requires Oxygen as the final electron acceptor. Qi has been quite often mixed up with air. I think this is due to the fact the human body does operate heavily on that of the oxygen energy 氧气. The phenomena of fire is just that of rapid oxidation that we can see due to heat catalyzing a reaction between a substance and that of oxygen in the air. A human blood ph is that of 7.4 an alkaline condition which reflects the need for the body to be at a balanced ph for some enzymes to work. Bronstead lowry definition of an acid is one that has a tendency to donate a proton H+ ion and thus oxidation in contrast I would deduce would be that of a body condition in this ideal alkaline condition. In an acidic state, the body supports anabolic synthesis which has been theorized as an ideal condition for tumours and cancer growth to grow. If there is a lack of O2- in the blood cells, the blood will flow slower due to the lack of repulsion of charges in effect. This is ideal for the oxygenated blood to pump fast from the left side of the body and slow down for the uptake of oxygen at the right side of the body when its oxygen has been given out to the body. Electrical impulses can substitute that of brain impulse and can also trigger an action in the neuro-muscular system. In fact , its most common the lack of innervation (usage), that a muscle fiber atrophies and undergo apoptosis. If we fail to use a … [...]

Pres – National Institute of Neurological Disorders & Stroke, Spinal Muscular Atrophy Project

Monday, November 7, 2011 2:45 PM – 3:10 PM Presentation – National Institute of Neurological Disorders & Stroke, Spinal Muscular Atrophy Project The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) Spinal Muscular Atrophy Project is a ‘virtual pharma’ drug development network for the rare disease. With a senior team of industry consultants and service contractors, the project conducted a focused, industry-style medicinal chemistry optimization program. Based on early success, the NIH Blueprint for Neuroscience has now established a virtual pharma network for the broader neuroscience research community. Researchers with promising compounds can ‘plug in’ to this network to develop compounds for phase I trials. By providing unprecedented access to resources and expertise, NINDS hopes to accelerate the development of novel drugs for nervous system disorders. Presenters Jill Heemskerk, Program Director, NINDS, NIH Paul G. Pearson, President, Pearson Pharma Partners [...]

The Human Body: Muscular System (2nd Ed., Rev.) (clip)

Various types of muscle tissue are examined with respect to the basic chemistry of their operation and their arrangement within the framework of the human body through live action, animation, and x-ray motion pictures. At the same time, visual information is supported by informational features in which an exercise equipment designer explains how equipment is designed to train specific groups of opposing muscles and a physiologist reviews the differences in the chemistry and functions of fast-twitch and slow twitch muscle fibers. 12 minutes, color. direct link to purchase complete program: www.phoenixlearninggroup.com [...]

The Muscular System Powerpoint

[recommended for school studies and school use] [was used in the WA, Blaine Middle School, In The 6th Grade] A school powerpoint I made with my friends a while ago and got a good grade on it, so I hope this could be helpful for any of your science presentations. It discribes the three muscle types in the muscular system: Smooth, Skeletal, and Cardiac. It also tells what those muscle types are part of, for example: the Cardiac muscle is only found in the heart and never gets tired. It also tells three major diseases that muscles in the muscular system can get (ant spell them by heart but it says thier names in the PP) and says thier effects on the muscles in the PP [...]
