Most people are aware of how guide dogs can change the lives of those who are visually impaired and we’ve all seen them out with their owners in their fluorescent jackets and collars. But were you aware that there are also hearing dogs available for the deaf?

Hearing dogs for deaf people allow those with hearing impairments to live a more independent day to life, both at home and out of the house, in a safe way, which means they often feel less isolated and can live a more full life.

In the home a hearing dog will listen for an alarm clock going off and then wake their owner (who is called the recipient), alert them when there is someone at the door, or ‘tell’ them that the phone is ringing. In these types of situation the dog will first alert the recipient by touching them with their paw. The recipient will then ask the dog ‘what is it?’ or something similar and the dog will lead them to whatever is making the sound; the phone, the door, the microwave etc.

In cases where there is danger, the dog will behave in a different way when it hears the sound, and after touching the recipient with its paw as usual, the dog will then drop to the ground. The recipient knows immediately that there is a danger and get take action to get themselves (and the dog) to safety.

Dogs chosen to become hearing dogs are put through rigorous training and as part of the course undergo an intensive four month sound work programme, where they are trained to respond to specific sounds in particular ways. The trainers will condition the dog to see reacting the sounds as fun, much in the same way as they react to going for a walk or having their dinner, and so the dog sees reacting to the sounds as a treat.

Once a dog has undergone it’s training it is then introduced to its new home, with ongoing training and integration exercises. The dog and the recipient begin to form a partnership with the dog eager to do well and please their new friend.

Ear damage, can completely change an individuals life and if you have suffered deafness as a result of working in a loud job then you may have a case to make a hearing loss claim.

Any individual that is diagnosed as having mesothelioma and has previously worked somewhere where they have been subject to asbestos exposure should consider getting legal advice to see if they can bring a civil law personal injury claim for mesothelioma compensation from their employer.

As mesothelioma claims can be a very specialised area, when calling compensation lawyers or a mesothelioma law firm it is always advisable to ask:

When making a mesothelioma claim does the attorney specialise in asbestos cases and asbestos claims. Are they fully conversant with asbestos law and specifically mesothelioma law and mesothelioma litigation?

How many mesothelioma compensation cases has the attorney dealt with?

Exactly how many of these mesothelioma claims have in fact come to court? (Often cases are settled out of court which may be preferable to you)

How many asbestos claims has the attorney successfully handled during the past three years?

Would you be required to pay the mesothelioma lawyers ? Or will they work on a no-win/no-fee basis? This tends to be the norm and it is highly recommended that you get an attorney that will work on this basis. Find out how they get paid for acting for you.

In the case of the mesothelioma compensation are there any extra expenses you could be expected to pay, such as court costs and court fees?

How will you be kept informed on what exactly is happening with your claim for mesothelioma compensation ?

How long will the mesothelioma claims process take?

How soon does the attorney expect to start a court action?

For the mesothelioma compensation claim to be successful you would need to show that:

It is likely that your mesothelioma compensation claim is because of exposure to asbestos during your work. This could be hard to prove, so the legal phrase is that ‘on the balance of probabilities’ the asbestos exposure caused the condition. Which means that eventhough it cannot be certain that the mesothelioma was due to one or more jobs, it is in all likelihood that it was.

And

Your employer at the time was careless (negligent) in not keeping up the standards required by common law.

It may be possible to sue your employer for specific offences against health and safety regulations.

If a previous employer has gone out of business it may be possible to make a mesothelioma compensation claim against the firm’s insurers.

As you can see there is quite a lot to consider when making a claim for mesothelioma compensation BUT if you ask the right questions you should have no problems.

The very first asbestos related lawsuit was filed in 1966, and since then hundreds of similar cases have been decided in favor of the victims that resulted in millions of dollars in cash settlements. [...]

The first asbestos related lawsuit was filed in 1966, and since then hundreds of similar cases have been decided in favor of the victims that resulted in millions of dollars in cash settlements.

As far back as the 1920s companies had details informing them how dangerous it was for their staff to work around asbestos. By the 1940s they were being told to quit using asbestos in their manufacturing processes. They did not listen, though, since it would have meant lower profits for the company. Instead, they made the decision to ignore the findings and permit their staff to continue working in unsafe conditions. This practice continued until the mid 1970s. As a result, thousands of workers inhaled asbestos fibers which could cause this devastating form of lung cancer.

Don’t hesitate to file a lawsuit because you’re afraid of what an expert lawyer is going to cost you. These people are well aware of the lost wages and medical bills you’re already facing, and so they work on a no win, no fee basis. By so doing they guarantee that they will win your case and get adequate restitution for you or else the work they put in will be given free of charge.

First start by looking for an asbestos attorney at bar associations, the Yellow Pages, the internet etc. The net is a good place to find asbestos or mesothelioma lawyers as you could find reports on the different firms. To practise in asbestos litigation doesn’t require any certifications so lawyers might not have “asbestos” listed as one of their specialties. It is your job to ask. Try to find an asbestos lawyer that is a member of dependable statewide or nationwide attorney network.

1.Step 2

Find out how seasoned the lawyers are at working on asbestos related cases. Find out how many mesothelioma lawsuits they have taken on and find out how many asbestos litigation cases they have WON. You want an attorney that has won more cases than not.

2.Step 3

You will want to locate an asbestos attorney that’s enthusiastic to take on your case. You may not have to go to court because countless asbestos claims are settled out of court. You do want a litigation firm nevertheless that is going to put everything they’ve got in to winning your mesothelioma case.

3.Step 4

Discover how many asbestos related resources the lawyer has at their disposal. For instance: do they have inspectors that they work with that concentrate on asbestos cases, individuals who work with asbestos product detection, and or people that have worked on sites contaminated with asbestos fibers (contractors, etc.) that they can refer to for help. You need an asbestos attorney that has some resources available
